Windows voice typing: dictate with Win+H
Place your cursor in a text field and press Win+H. Microsoft lists an internet connection and microphone as requirements. Voice typing uses online speech recognition and supports automatic punctuation.
On supported Copilot+ PCs, Microsoft also documents fluid dictation for selected English language settings. It can edit grammar, punctuation and filler words. It would be inaccurate to say Windows can only produce verbatim transcripts. Check availability for your device and Windows version.
Windows voice access: control your PC by voice
Voice access is a Windows 11 feature for controlling your computer and authoring text. According to Microsoft, speech recognition works without an internet connection after you download the required language files.
